SPOT Connect™ Apps – Release Information & Notes V1.2

Apple App Release Notes V1.2

SPOT Connect App version 1.2 should be used with SPOT Connect Firmware V1.3 or higher for best results. The App is iOS 5 tested.

Introduction

V1.2 introduces new features such as Map & Go℠ (Offline Maps), Message History and Battery/GPS acquisition indicator. It also provides usability enhancements and includes some bug fixes.

New Features

  • Map & Go: Offline Maps are now available to download and save locally in the "Settings" view. Map & Go enables users to access maps for navigation and tracking of their locations without a cellular or Wi-Fi connection. The user must be in cellular or Wi-Fi range to create these maps initially before heading off the grid. Offline maps are useful when a user wants to access maps of areas when outside of cellular range, since regular Google Maps™ will not work outside of cellular or Wi-Fi range. The user can move seamlessly between offline and online (Google) maps. Initially, two types of source maps are available: OpenStreetMap and OpenCycleMap (topo) to create offline maps.
  • Message History: Provides a record of all messages sent from the SPOT Connect App when it's paired with the SPOT Connect device. Details include message type, date and time, and GPS location coordinates. Message History is viewable in a Details view and a Map view. The SPOT Connect App and Connect device need to be connected via Bluetooth to display Message History. If the user is in a Mode and turns off their mobile device, any messages sent on the SPOT Connect device will not sync back into the history on the Connect App. For a complete list of all SPOT messages sent (regardless of Bluetooth connection), visit https://login.FindMeSPOT.com.
  • Battery/GPS Indicator: A new icon is added to the mobile device's status bar. This icon indicates the battery and GPS acquisition status of the connected SPOT Connect device.

Issues Fixed/Enhancements

  • Added Help info and online help tips (iTips) explaining several key features
  • Device Status message ("In Help Mode", for example) is now click-able
  • Added Battery and GPS indicator views to "Settings" view with detailed descriptions of statuses
  • Redesigned Mode views and Type & Send views
  • Simulated timer in Mode view to display countdown per second
  • Redesigned "No Device Found" view with explanations for the possible reasons

Known Issues

  • Message History – If a Track session is stopped abnormally (ie, if the SPOT Connect loses power), the end time of the Track session is not captured. When another Track session is started, Message History will show these two Track sessions as one session.
  • SOS Message History – When an SOS message is initiated from the standalone Connect device (not the App), the details in the App's Message History will show the previous SOS message (should one exist in Message History), but only the GPS coordinates were sent to GEOS – not the previous SOS message. This aside, SOS messages sent from either the standalone button on the Connect device or through the App will always transmit the correct GPS information over the satellites.
  • Reference Point – If the user navigates to another function within the SPOT Connect App while in the process of dropping and sending a Reference Point to a contact group, the selected contact group and message will not be viewable once the user returns to the Message Creation screen for Reference Points. However, the App is transmitting what was originally selected.

Notes:
This iOS App release does not address Bluetooth auto-reconnect to Apple devices. This will be addressed in a future SPOT Connect device firmware release.
